Human rights defenders of the LRHRC “Alternative” Valery Novykov and Denys Denysenko received evidence of the presence of “DPR” representatives on the territory of the Avdiyivka Central City Hospital.
"I was in the sanitary checkpoint. Two of their representatives came in, pointing with machine-guns and asking “Where is the head doctor?”. We'll shoot you all here. Our nurse, who suffers from hypertension, resigned immediately after this incident..."

In mid-July of 2014, when the city wasn’t under control of the Ukrainian authorities, there was another case, which was described by a doctor who then worked at the Avdiyivka Central City Hospital.
Through the military unit in Opytne Ukrainian officers managed to transfer two wounded soldiers to the Avdiyivka Central city Hospital. One of them who had a serious lung injury was operated and could not breathe on his own, so he stayed at the intensive care unit with a medical ventilator. The second soldier was operated on his knee and he could not walk. In the morning, representatives of the so-called "DPR" surrounded the hospital, blocked two existing entrances, and prohibited the staff to move. Five people armed with machine guns came to the intensive care unit with a demand to give them these two soldiers.
"The head physician, the deputy head on polyclinic work, the traumatologist, and the surgeon came to them. For an hour, a conversation was being held that the hospital is not a place to address such issues, that these are patients who need treatment. But what could the doctor do against the machine gun? As a result, the doctors disconnected the first soldier from the ventilator, the combatants took him out on a stretcher. We are sure that he died right in the car. And the second boy was forced to walk on his legs, and his destiny is unknown..."
–said the doctor.
