The field hospital of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which provided medical care to soldiers, wounded during a military operation, has been operating in Svetlodarsk City Hospital from July 3, 2014 to January 25, 2015. After Debaltsevo had been encircled, the hospital was shifted to Bakhmut.

The representatives of the Luhansk regional human rights center "Alternative" Valery Novykov and Denys Denysenko, in the course of monitoring of the situation with the shelling of civilian targets found out that the hospital has suffered for the first time on 27 January 2015. Around 3 pm after a mine had exploded nearby, the glass was shattered, and a nurse died on her way home from work.

The shelling became permanent. At that time in the hospital, there were about 20 medical staff and 10 patients.

In the hospital, there was a basement with electricity and water, the operating and dressing rooms, as well as an equipped delivery room. Doctors and nurses had been working in the basement the entire months of February and March 2015. Some of the medical staff even slept here since they were living in apartment towers without a basement, and feared for their lives.

As a result of the shelling, the two-storey building of infectious disease department was destroyed (still not repaired), laundry room, nutrition and pathology department unit partially damaged. The roof of the main building of the hospital was also damaged, windows were broken in all the buildings, and medical equipment and soft stock has become unusable.

As of now, the glass was put in all the windows of the hospital. Also, the operating room in the surgical department of the in-patient facility, and the laundry room have undergone major repairs.

The publication was written in the frame of work of the Coalition "Justice for Peace in Donbass" on the project "The usage of methods and means of warfare prohibited by international law against civilian health facilities during an armed conflict in the east of Ukraine", carried out with the support of the International "Renaissance" Foundation.
