The building of Marinka Central District Hospital (Krasnohorivka) was seriously damaged for the first time on June 3, 2015. During the bombardment, twelve warehouses, the roof and reinforced concrete ceiling of the third building were damaged, and two cars were burnt. In August of the same year, the children's consultation and the accounting building were destroyed. Outbuildings, the roof of the neurological department, a substation that supplies the hospital with electricity were affected.
The shelling did not stop in 2016: on 9, 29 and 31 July, and on 7 August, the shrapnel knocked out the window glass. The last bombardment, during which the substation was completely destroyed, occurred on the night of 21 to 22 October 2016: shells tore apart the asphalt, shrapnel broke side windows in the clinic and in the first building. That night up to 100 employees worked in the shift in two departments of the hospital where there were about 50 patients. No one was hurt during the shelling.
Human rights defenders of the Luhansk Regional Human Rights Center “Alternative” asked medical staff members about the problems of the institution, which is currently located near the demarcation line (approximately 5 km).
"Ukrainian militants stole out medical car Toyota in 2014, the police filed a case of theft... We need construction materials to restore the building. We repaired the roof and installed window glass where possible. There is no gas in the city. Our problems are the lack of gas supply and centralized water supply in the hospital. There is technical water in the city, but we have our own water channel, which is blocked by representatives of the "DPR". We have our own boiler room on the territory, but we have experienced two winters without heating already. Each patient, when he comes to the hospital, brings a heater with him. The lack of staff is also a big problem, because out of 450 employees around 100 left. The hospital does not have enough medicine, and if in 2015 many charitable organizations helped, which is different to the current situation..."
—the staff members shared their hardship.
