Because of the discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, men start fighting on the side of the so-called ‘LPR’ and ‘DPR’. According to Andriy Sokolov from Luhansk, at least one such case was registered in 2015.

‘My gay acquaintance was evicted from an apartment, he lost his job. Then he went to fight on the “LPR” side. After the authority of ‘LPR’ had started to create a regular army, people began to get away from the front line, my friend left. He was with Cossacks, where he had stood for two months in the shell swept zone’, says Andriy Sokolov.

He added that had persuaded his friend to stop fighting. As a result of this, he filled a ‘peace’ position, but didn’t change his attitudes.
