A military-patriotic camp was opened on July 7, 2016 in the temporarily occupied Donetsk at the initiative of an illegal armed group "Brigade Vostok". Students of Donetsk’s sports clubs aged 10–17 lived there in the military tents.
Boys and girls learned the theory of military affairs, military tactics, firearms disassembly and assembly. Children got through an obstacle course, studied the basics of survival. The training program also provided lessons on medical, physical training, and drill.
Alexander Khodakovsky, the leader of the militants of the so-called "DPR" explained the goals of military-patriotic education at the opening of "Vympel".
"Guys, be worthy of those men who died in previous wars for our country, and who are dying in this war. liability is being asserted on you. You need to take it off our hands and carry it on", said Khodakovsky, obviously referring to the military obligations.
